About Me
Hello and welcome to my store.
My name is Brent Lowrie. I'm a father, husband, retired Canadian Armed Forces Captain, highland piper and leather craftsman. I live in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada with my family and two cats. Known for its spectacular scenery, outdoor recreation, wineries, and fruit orchards, Kelowna is nestled in the sunny Okanagan Valley on the shore of Okanagan Lake. It's one of the most beautiful places in the world.
I love working with my hands, especially with leather. I use centuries-old tools and techniques to produce rustic and rugged everyday carry (EDC) leather goods. All of my leather goods are built-to-order and built to last a lifetime. Using only full-grain leather and solid metal hardware, I strive for perfection in everything I do and it's reflected in the quality of my work.
I hope you enjoy looking at my work and that I will be able to make something especially for you very soon. Thanks for stopping by. Cheers!
Brent
Born in Salmon Arm, BC, I have been an Alberta Forest Officer in Kananaskis Country, served with the Canadian Armed Forces, worked as a graphic designer, an illustrator, an animator with Walt Disney Animation and I taught high school art. I am currently a lead artist at a video game studio.
Having learned to play the Highland bagpipe when I was nine years old, I've been piping for 49 years, first studying under Willie Watt in Edmonton, Alberta. As a lad, I played with the Edmonton Boys' Pipe Band under the direction of Iain MacCrimmon. Over the years I've played with many pipe bands, including The Regimental Pipes and Drums of the Calgary Highlanders, The Calgary Police Pipe Band, Clan McBain Pipe Band (Calgary), Triumph Street Pipe Band (Vancouver), Rocky Mountain Pipe Band (Calgary), and the 26th Field Regiment RCA Pipe Band (Brandon). I am currently a Pipe Sergeant with the Vale United Pipe Band in the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia. As a successful Grade One Solo Competitor, I earned prizes in March, Strathspey and Reel, Jig/Hornpipe and Senior Piobaireachd in both Alberta and B.C.
In 1988 I enrolled as a reservist with the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) in Calgary, Alberta and graduated top recruit of my basic training course. I immediately joined the Calgary Highlanders and spent the next two years as a Piper with the Regimental Pipes and Drums.
For over seven years, I was an officer in the Cadet Instructor Cadre (CIC) of the CAF, working with the Royal Canadian Army Cadets. Capt. I finished my career as the Commanding Officer of the 2520 Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corp in Brandon, MB. While an officer with the CIC, I instructed bagpipes at the annual Cadet Music Concentration and the Cadet Honour Band in Manitoba and spent four summers as senior piping instructor and training officer of the Rocky Mountain Cadet Training Centre Pipe Band program.
For ten years, I served as the Pipe Sergeant of the 26th Field Regiment RCA Pipe Band (Brandon, Manitoba) and was appointed Pipe Major in 2016. I held that position for two years, before moving to Kelowna, BC.
